GROWING OLD IS NOT FOR THE MEEK
Growing old, I have much to be grateful for—the young lady I met after leaving the Navy, my three children, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Life has taught me that tomorrow is never promised. Losing my wife of 31 years and my firstborn showed me how deeply our choices affect those we leave behind.
I cherish memories of traveling across the U.S., living St. Augustine’s words: “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.”
Growing old brings the weight of loss, not just of people but of the stories tied to what they leave behind. Memories linger, offering comfort and lessons. This book is about my life and the mistakes I’ve made—shared to help you create a better future for those you love.
THE BIRTH OF AMERICA – 400 YEARS ACROSS THE OCEAN
In 1607, Squanto, an Indian, was kidnapped and taken across the ocean, spending 14 years with Brother Daniel, a monk. There, he developed a sympathetic outlook and met Pilgrim leaders William Bradford and John Carver.
After escaping and returning to America, Squanto found his village wiped out by disease. He helped the Pilgrims survive their first harsh winter by suggesting they use the empty huts.
As tensions rose between settlers and tribes, Squanto acted as a peacemaker, urging unity with the words, “We live on the same earth, under the same moon, breathing the same air.” His efforts led to 50 years of harmony.
